Maritime Security Law

Maritime Security Law addresses the emerging international legal and regulatory framework being developed and implemented in response to contemporary maritime security threats. It also examines selected regional and national regulatory responses, including relevant American post-9/11 regulations and responses. Topics to be covered include: the Law of the Sea Convention; the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation 1988 (SUA Convention), the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code; International Maritime Organization guidelines on combating piracy; regional responses by organizations such as APEC and the ASEAN Regional Forum; bilateral U.S. ship boarding agreements; the Container Security Initiative and C-TPAT (U.S.); and emerging developments and technologies, such as long-range satellite tracking of vessels.
